Virgo is the maiden, and she has always held the harvest. The Babylonians called part of these stars the Furrow, and her brightest star, Spica, takes its name from the Latin for an ear of grain. The Greeks and Romans saw in her the harvest goddess Demeter, or her daughter Persephone, or Astraea, the goddess of justice who was the last of the immortals to leave the earth. She is also the largest constellation of the zodiac.
Here she is as the sign lives on earth, wheat in her hair and a sheaf in her arms, in the night sky where her constellation sits. Analytical, kind, practical: the three words astrology has long given the sign.
If you were born August 23 through September 22, you were born under the astrological sign of Virgo. Whether Virgo is your Sun sign, your rising, or the person you are buying for, it is a quiet way to carry your corner of the sky.
