Whispers from Beyond

Whispers from Beyond is a guide to telling a meaningful sign from an ordinary coincidence.

Working psychic, medium and tarot reader Suzanne Everett sets out twenty signs commonly reported by people who believe a deceased loved one or a spirit guide is trying to reach them: repeating numbers, feathers and coins, a scent that belongs to someone, lights and batteries, butterflies and dragonflies, the visitation dream, and waking at the same hour night after night.

Each sign is given the same treatment: what the tradition holds it to mean, what to look for, and, on the same page, the ordinary explanation. A flickering light is usually a loose bulb. A white feather is usually a duvet. The book says so plainly, on the grounds that a guide claiming everything is a sign is worth nothing at all.

A closing section offers four tests for discernment, guidance on how to ask for a sign, journal pages for recording what actually happens, and a chapter on what it means when nothing comes.

The book makes no promise that a sign will arrive and does not claim to interpret what a loved one is thinking. It is not medical or psychological treatment, and it says so.

The Sign Journal

The Sign Journal is a companion to the book "Whispers from Beyond". It is meant to be a journal to record the signs you have noticed with what happened before you talk yourself out of it.

Suzanne Everett - author, psychic and medium - gives ninety-six entries, each with the same six fields: the date and hour, the plain version of what happened, what you were doing just before, what you felt in the first second, the ordinary explanation, and which of four tests it survives.

The fifth field is the one people skip. Every entry asks for the ordinary explanation - the draft, the playlist, the loose bulb - because there is always one available, and a record that names them honestly is a record you can still believe in a year from now.

The four tests are timing, personal meaning, the body, and improbability. Nobody can tell you a sign was real. A sign that survives interrogation is worth keeping.
